Yeah, I shoot for at least two gallons per person per day of survival. They say one gallon per person per day is the minimum for survival but I double that for cleaning and cooking. But honestly, I just prefer to store as much water as possible with a plan to replenish it. Partially for the reasons you stated. I use a rain catch system as my main replenishment plan.

I think it would be hard to damage the electronics since you don't already have a current going to them, but it can still certainly happen if the EMP is strong enough to overpower the electronics. If it can induce enough current into the electronics it doesn't matter if they're powered up or not. That's my understanding anyway.

My understanding is that it won't. It has carbon that does help with chemicals but it's not near on the level as say a Berkey filter is. It's made for mild chemical contaminants in your typical tap water. Not heavily treated pool water.

Frankly, this information is of limited use today. Modern cars these days use far more onboard computers and electronic components, not to mention many of them do not have a manually working key and instead have a button enabled by an electromagnetic signal from the key fob. I am astounded that the EMP Commission has not released an updated evaluation of the impact of an EMP on the U.S., given the increasing global dependence on electronic-powered devices. All that to say, the modern vehicular impact from an EMP detonation cannot be reasonably assumed from 20 year old data and should be re-evaluated.

Hello John,

Awesome site you have here. Many thanks for sharing.
I was reading on another site about the different uses for Ballistol, a firearm lubricant and how it can be used to treat wounds.
Have you heard of this?
I see you use bleach to treat water so I'm wondering one can use Ballistol instead of bleach?
Let me know what you think.
Thanks,
Matt
